  6.   Beta test release of maX.500 2.0 Macintosh Directory Client

  9.  Description:    This is the final beta of a new version of maX.500.
  10.         maX.500 is a friendly Macintosh X.500 Directory User
  11.         Agent (client).  It supports searching, viewing, and
  12.         modifying X.500 entries.

  15.   BUD X.500 LDAP client for MSDOS

  18.  Description:   This is a port of the ldap-2.0 ud program to MSDOS.
  19.         It requires that your MSDOS machine be configured to
  20.         run NCSA Telnet.  There is no documentation for bud at
  21.         the present time.  There are some known bugs in this
  22.         version, so it is fairly experimental at this time.

  30.  Description:   The ldap distribution contains an intermediate protocol
  31.         server that speaks X.500 on one side and LDAP on the
  32.         other, as defined by the IETF Internet Drafts OSI-DS 26
  33.         and 27.  There is also a lightweight BER encoding/
  34.         decoding library, an LDAP client library with API
  35.         useful for building X.500 user agents, and several
  36.         clients that use the client library (including UD, a
  37.         simple command line white pages client, a couple of
  38.         Gopher gateways, and an finger daemon that access X.500
  39.         intead of /etc/passwd).
  40.     Changes:    (as compared to U-M LDAP 1.0) several bug fixes,
  41.             improved error handling, bitstring support added to
  42.         lber library, fax photo support added to ldap server,
  43.         true abandon capability added to client and server,
  44.         addition of ud and go500gw clients, support for Ultrix,
  45.         MSDOS, Mac platforms, no longer requires shared ISODE
  46.         libraries.

  52.         and QUIPU are required to build the LDAP server, but
  53.         other clients and associated libraries can be built

  55.         being phased out in favor of LDAP.

  63.  Description:    The dixie distribution contains an intermediate protocol
  64.         server that speaks X.500 on one side and dixie on the other
  65.         (over udp/tcp).  The server does protocol translation,
  66.         ASN.1 encoding/decoding, etc.  The server is used by
  67.         the maX.500 client described below.  Also included
  68.         is a simple Unix client called ud, and an application
  69.         library that can be used by programmers to access the
  70.         dixie protocol (and thus X.500).  Many of the other
  71.         X.500 servers and clients developed at U-M and elsewhere
  72.         make use of this software.  Most of these clients have
  73.         been ported to the new LDAP release, though, and you
  74.         should probably get that instead of DIXIE.
  75.     Changes:    Support for audio attributes and jpeg format photos has
  76.         been added to the server and client library.  The client
  77.         library has been enhanced to try all IP addresses the
  78.         dixie server name has listed in its DNS record (up to 4 IP
  79.         addresses on DOS and on the Macintosh).  Numerous bug fixes
  80.         and enhancements to the server, library, and ud client.

  93.  Description:   ud is simple command line white pages interface to X.500.
  94.         The source is included in the DIXIE source distribution (see
  95.         above for details).  This is a binary distribution that
  96.         includes version 1.10 of ud for the following platforms:
  97.             NeXT machine, NeXT OS 2.1
  98.             Sun Sparc family, SunOS 4.1.1
  99.             Sun-3 (MC68000) family, SunOS 3.5 and 4.1.1
  100.             DEC 3000/5000 (MIPS) family, Ultrix 4.2
  101.             IBM RS6000 family, AIX 3.1

  109.  Description:    This is version 1.10 of the ud command-line X.500 client,
  110.         built for DOS using the NCSA TCP/IP software.  It requires
  111.         that your MSDOS machine be configured to run NCSA Telnet.
  112.         There is no documentation for bud at the present time.
  113.         This is a version that uses DIXIE (see above).

  121.  Description:    go500 is a simple daemon that transforms queries from Gopher
  122.         clients to X.500 queries.  Point your gopher client at
  123.         totalrecall.rs.itd.umich.edu port 5555 if you want to try
  124.         this out.
  125.       Notes:    The distribution is a compressed tar file.  go500 has only
  126.         been built and tested on a Sun4 running SunOS 4.1.1.  There
  127.         are definite University of Michigan dependencies in the code,
  128.         but they can easily be cleaned up.

  132.  X.500 Finger daemon

  135.  Description:    This is a replacement for the standard Unix finger daemon
  136.         that looks up names in X.500 instead of in /etc/passwd or
  137.         the local equivalent.  It uses the dixie protocol and
  138.         client library (see "DIXIE server/library/ud client" above).

  141.         been built and tested on a Sun4 running SunOS 4.1.1.  There

  152.  Description:    This software provides X.500 white pages access from the Mac
  153.        Notes:    This is a Binhex format, StuffIt 1.5 file compressed file
  154.         with the binary and some documentation enclosed.  It can
  155.         be ftp'd in text/ASCII mode.  You will need StuffIt 1.5 or
  156.         later to decode and decompress the file.

  165.  Description:   A sendmail (5.64 or 5.65, take your pick) modified to
  166.         do X.500 lookups.  Lookups are accomplished by using udp
  167.         to contact the dixie server, which keeps a connection open
  168.         to the DSA.  Instructions for making and configuring things
  169.         are in the sendmail source in READ_ME.X500.  Mail sent
  170.         to <name>@umich.edu makes use of this modified sendmail.
  171.     Changes:    Since 1.0, the x.500 sendmail now uses the dixie server
  172.         instead of duad.  Also, a few changes to the way
  173.         lookups are done (uid's are now looked up). Groups are also
  174.         handled.  A few bug fixes, too.
  175.       Notes:    This distribution is a compressed tar file.  Also, the
  176.         distribution contains only the src/ subdirectory of the
  177.         sendmail distribution, so you should cd into the toplevel
  178.         sendmail source directory before untarring.
